August Peak Sauces Episode 5: Pizza Margherita

Pizza Worthy Margherita Pizza Recipe

Servings: 8

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound pizza dough, store-bought or homemade

  • 1- 24 ounce jar of August Peak Red Pomodoro Sauce

  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, torn or thinly sliced

  • Fresh basil leaves

  • 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling

  • Cornmeal, for stretching the dough

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

    • Sprinkle cornmeal on a circular aluminum pizza pan to prevent sticking.

    • Lay the preformed 12-inch pizza dough on the pan, stretching it as needed to fit the pan evenly.

  2. Add the Sauce:

    • Ladle the Red Pomodoro sauce onto the dough.

    • Spread the sauce evenly in a circular motion, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust.

  3. Add the Toppings:

    • Evenly distribute the torn or thinly sliced fresh mozzarella over the sauce.

    • Reserve the fresh basil for later to maintain its flavor and freshness.

  4. Bake the Pizza:

    • Place the pizza in the preheated oven.

    • Bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.

  5. Finish and Serve:

    • Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.

    • Sprinkle fresh basil leaves over the pizza.

    • Drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil for added flavor.

    • Cut the pizza into 8 slices and serve immediately.
